Munters Wins BSEK 2.0 Order for Modular AI Data Center Cooling
Munters Data Center Technologies has been awarded an order valued at approximately BSEK 2.0 (roughly USD 190 million) from a US-based colocation provider for a modular AI data center cooling platform. The order, one of the largest in Munters' data center history, covers the design and supply of custom cooling distribution units (CDUs) and computer room air handlers (CRAHs) engineered specifically for AI factory-scale compute deployments.
The significance of this contract extends beyond its size. AI inference and training workloads impose thermal demands fundamentally different from traditional enterprise computing. GPU clusters generate sustained heat densities at the rack level that can exceed 100 kW — an order of magnitude above what conventional CRAC-based cooling was designed for. The Munters modular cooling platform addresses this by integrating precision airflow management with high-efficiency heat exchange, enabling data center operators to deploy AI infrastructure without retrofitting their entire cooling architecture.
The modular approach is particularly relevant to operators who need to scale quickly. Rather than designing a bespoke cooling system for each deployment, a modular platform allows cooling capacity to be added in defined increments — matching infrastructure build-out to compute provisioning timelines. This reduces capital lock-in and simplifies capacity planning in a market where AI hardware generations turn over rapidly.
For data center operators in India — including colocation providers, hyperscale tenants, and enterprise private cloud facilities — the question of how to cool AI workloads is increasingly urgent. The Indian data center market is expanding rapidly in Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, with several operators now actively evaluating GPU-dense deployments.
